DescriptionDULUTH - A Duluth man says he is likely to challenge republican Chip Cravaack for congress next year. And that his official announcement will come soon.

Daniel Fanning – a democrat – is Deputy State Director for Minnesota Senator, Al Franken. He's also a National Guard reservist who's served a year–long combat deployment in Iraq.

Several high profile DFLers have already backed away from a run, including state senator Roger Reinert, Duluth mayor Don Ness and former house majority leader, Tony Sertich.

Duluth city councilor, Jeff Anderson is also considering a run at the DFL nomination.

Speaking with FOX 21 today, Fanning says:

"There's no way I can sit by and let Republicans try to balance the budget on the backs of the middle class and working poor, while continuing to give tax breaks to the wealthy, fund unnecessary wars and give subsidies to oil companies that are reporting near record profits."
