DescriptionHe tried marriage and fatherhood, flirted with being a governor, he accepted being gay and then he finally announced he would be a priest.

But it isn't time to call ex-New Jersey governor Jim McGreevey 'father' just yet - for his bid to join the Episcopal Church has been rejected.

Church sources have said that McGreevey's sexuality has nothing to do with the rebuttal and everything to do with him being a 'jackass'.

At first, I thought this was Onion-style satire. I was startled to discover that it was a real news story, word for word -- even "jackass".

Its not exactly a slanderous charge...

Sure, but it's a more pungent descriptor than you'd expect to hear from High Church officials.

Caveat: I'm not arguing with it.

Agreed on both counts.

I've always loved The Onion's reaction when he resigned.
