Description | Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway is poised to announce later today that he will not run for mayor in the May elections.
Caraway, 58, was considered to be among three potential internal candidates who would vie to replace Mayor Tom Leppert. Leppert recently announced that he would not seek a second term, fueling speculation that he would run for a U.S. Senate seat.
Caraway, a key political ally for Leppert on major projects, was perceived by some political insiders to be a serious contender in what is expected to be a crowded field of contenders. As perhaps the most high-profile black candidate in the race, Caraway had said privately that he felt he could at least force a runoff election.
But Caraway, who recently received some unflattering media coverage because of a reported domestic dispute at his home, is expected to announce that he will seek a third term in District 4. |
