|Description||Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway is poised to announce later today that he will not run for mayor in the May elections. |
Caraway, 58, was considered to be among three potential internal candidates who would vie to replace Mayor Tom Leppert. Leppert recently announced that he would not seek a second term, fueling speculation that he would run for a U.S. Senate seat.
Caraway, a key political ally for Leppert on major projects, was perceived by some political insiders to be a serious contender in what is expected to be a crowded field of contenders. As perhaps the most high-profile black candidate in the race, Caraway had said privately that he felt he could at least force a runoff election.
But Caraway, who recently received some unflattering media coverage because of a reported domestic dispute at his home, is expected to announce that he will seek a third term in District 4.
