Description | WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--House lawmakers voted Wednesday to repeal the sweeping health-care law in an attempt to reverse the key domestic policy achievement during the first two years of the Obama presidency.
In a largely partisan 245-189 vote, lawmakers voted in favor of legislation that would strike the health-care law from the books.
Republicans have scheduled another vote for Thursday on a resolution instructing House committees to start working on an alternative health-care overhaul package.
The repeal attempt is certain to founder as the Democratic-controlled Senate won't take up the measure. Even if by some chance any form of significant health-care repeal legislation passed both chambers of Congress, the president wouldn't hesitate to use his veto pen. |
