Description | Yet another high-ranking Florida Democrat is endorsing independent Gov. Charlie Crist in the U.S. Senate race.
Before a cheering crowd of educators at the Florida Education Association annual delegate meeting, former Attorney General Bob Butterworth announced he is supporting Crist over his party’s candidate, Democrat Kendrick Meek.
“I am a moderate. I am a realist. I am a proud Democrat,” he said. “As a proud Democrat, I give my full support to Gov. Charlie Crist for the U.S. Senate.
Afterward, Butterworth told reporters his decision was pragmatic. “I love Kendrick Meek,” he said, echoing the words of many Democrats that have abandoned the congressman in recent weeks. However, he said, after talking to co-workers at his Fort Lauderdale law firm and friends, he became convinced: “Kendrick Meek cannot win this seat.” |
