DescriptionHopes by the Ouachita Parish Police Jury to begin taking bids on the long-awaited Finks Hideaway Road improvement project this month have been dashed — again.

As late as May, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development had expected to begin the bidding process on the Police Jury's project this month. But this week, DOTD moved the bid letting back to March — delaying the project for at least another five months.

The project calls for widening Finks Hideaway from two lanes to five between U.S. 165 and Holland Drive and replacing the four-way stop sign at Old Sterlington Road with traffic lights.

Marshall Hill, DOTD district administrator in Monroe, said the department pushed back the bid date because of rights-of-way issues on the project. Even if the project is bid in March, Hill said it could be several more months before construction could begin because contracts must be signed between the contractor with the low bid, and DOTD and the contractor must be given time to prepare for the construction.
