DescriptionDudley Bates can't remember the last time he voted for a Democrat. The lifelong Republican said he's never voted for one for governor.

But Bates, who served for more than a decade as the mayor of Altamonte Springs, feels he has no other choice Nov. 2.

The reason? He doesn't trust GOP nominee Rick Scott and believes the Democratic candidate, Florida CFO Alex Sink, is conservative enough on financial matters to warrant his support.

"I wouldn't vote for the man if he were the only candidate in the election," Bates said of Scott.

But Sink "has a very fine, strong business background," he said. "I think she has some solid, reasonable plans for Florida and getting our economy back on the right road."

Bates isn't alone among Republicans.
