DescriptionTALLAHASSEE — While Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott has been scooting around Tallahassee huddling behind closed doors with lobbyists and business groups, Democrat Alex Sink has also been feverishly trying to line up power interest-groups to aid her candidacy.

The latest example that pluralism is still alive and well: Sink has swept the endorsements from Florida’s law enforcement unions, the Florida State Fraternal Order of Police and the Police Benevolent Association. The FOP announced its endorsement Thursday, while the PBA had already endorsed her. Both endorsements give Sink instant street-credibility on “law and order” issues with voters as well as potent Get-Out-The-Vote support from police officers.

According to Sink’s campaign, it’s the first time the FOP has endorsed a Democrat for governor in 16 years and the first time a Democrat has won the backing of both law enforcement unions since they threw their support to the late Lawton Chiles in 1990.
