Dahlkemper Runs Like Race May Be Her Last

| Description | "From election night in November 2008 when she defeated veteran Republican incumbent Rep. Phil English, Kathy Dahlkemper says she knew the grip on her seat was tenuous.
And if she gets tired of being asked about the chances of holding on to that seat this November, she doesn't show it as reporters from Time magazine, WFMJ-TV News and The Business Journal covered her appearance at a dinner Wednesday night where she was the keynote speaker.
The Democrat who represents Pennsylvania's 3rd district in the U.S. House of Representatives was at the Radisson Hotel to address the Shenango Valley chapter of the American Business Women's Association.
On the campaign trail, she says, her constituents' concern is jobs and the economy. Seldom is she asked about her vote for health care reform, she relates, an issue national political journals opine makes her vulnerable to her Republican challenger, car dealer Mike Kelly.
The people she greets and shakes hands with on the campaign trail are unaware of Kelly or his platform, Dahlkemper relates. But that doesn't mean she won't cease her efforts to meet each of her 650,000 constituents before Election Day.
Noting she's been in office only 20 months, Dahlkemper professes surprise at how she's being held responsible for the health of the economy and the growth of the national debt and the status of the war in Afghanistan.
Well aware of the competing concerns to keep the federal deficit from growing appreciably larger against the need to put the unemployed back to work and increase consumer spending, Dahlkemper is loath to offer specifics on what programs she would vote to cut or taxes she would vote to raise." |
