Description | Independent candidate Lawton "Bud" Chiles announced his withdrawal from Florida's race for governor Wednesday and endorsed Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink as the best hope for children, campaign finance reform and economic recovery.
"I have to be able to look my supporters and family and friends in the eye and say I think I can get across the finish line," said Chiles. "It's hard for me to be able to look people in the eye and say I really think we can make this happen."
Chiles, 57, said he had lunch with Sink on Tuesday, when word of his withdrawal began to leak. He said "we had a very good, very frank, very constructive discussion" about issues affecting working families in Florida. |
