Description“Marriage has been ruined,” the husband said as he walked into the house after listening to talk radio on his way home from work.
“I know our marriage has been ruined,” the wife responded. “Your nose hair is so long it’s forming a goatee, you have Cool Ranch Doritos particles hanging from your teeth most days and you don’t even know all our kids’ names.”

“Not true,” the husband said. “I do know all the kids’ names. It’s just sometimes I can’t remember which one is Brandon and which one is Justin.”

“Anyway,” the husband continued. “I’m not talking about our marriage in particular. I’m talking about the institution of marriage. It has been ruined by a judge who found California’s Proposition 8 unconstitutional. Now men can marry men, women can marry women and Johnny Weir can marry someone of his same sex, whichever one that is. Marriage should be between one man and one woman.”

Responded the wife: “You haven’t exactly done much to preserve traditional marriage yourself. I’m your third wife, after all, and that doesn’t count all your common-law wives named Brandy.”

The husband either didn’t hear his wife or refused to acknowledge that remark.

“The Proposition 8 case went before an openly homosexual judge and he decided it was unconstitutional for homosexuals to not be allowed to marry. That judge should have been barred from hearing the case. Of course he’s going to rule that way. He’s gay himself. You know how they are.”

“Following that logic,” the wife said, “all heterosexual judges should have been barred from hearing the case because they would have been predisposed to support heterosexual-only marriage. You know how they are.”

The husband tried to understand his wife’s counterargument. Failing that, he went on.
