Description | The absence of funding could result in no elections this November, according to Commonwealth Election Commission executive director Robert Guerrero.
The commission has just three months to prepare for the election for the Commonwealth's representative to the U.S. Congress, yet no money has been identified to fund this exercise.
The election is slated for Nov. 2.
Saipan Tribune learned that the commission's top official met with Lt. Gov. Eloy Inos on Monday and Guerrero said that Inos promised to seek the Legislature's help in finding the money for the elections.
The commission estimates the entire election to cost $128,000. This will cover logistics and operational expenditures, including public education for two legislative initiatives that have so far been transmitted to the commission. The commission estimates spending $40,000 on public education for each initiative. |
