Description | There are politicians who stand at a pulpit, pumping their fists to accentuate a heated speech.
And then there was Bunk - a likable, hardworking man whose mild-mannered approach to both life and politics was among his greatest gifts.
In the wake of the death of former Maryland Secretary of State Tyras S. "Bunk" Athey at Hospice of the Chesapeake in Annapolis on Tuesday, those who knew him offered praise and reverent respect for a man who served 27 years in the state House of Delegates and was a lifetime advocate for his community and county.
"I looked at him as the kind of guy I would want to be," said Del. Ted Sophocleus, D-Linthicum, who was appointed to fill Athey's seat when he was appointed secretary of state. "I knew I would want to look like him, act like him, learn from him." |
