Description | Former U.S. Senate candidate Terrence Wall says "corruption and bribery" helped his GOP primary opponent get their party's endorsement but offered no proof.
Wall, a Middleton developer, told a Madison radio station that he believes delegates to the state GOP convention in Milwaukee last month received offers of having their hotel rooms paid if they supported Oshkosh businessman and Republican primary front-runner Ron Johnson.
But there was no immediate proof of his allegations and the manager of the Johnson campaign quickly released electronic copies of records from the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Milwaukee that showed the Johnson campaign bought six hotels rooms on the two nights of the convention on May 21 and May 22.
Juston Johnson, who is no relation to the candidate, said that the rooms were for Johnson and his wife and six other staff volunteers - not for any delegate and that Wall was making reckless accusations without evidence or a single named witness.
"He's making these allegations and he's making these without any proof," Juston Johnson said.
In audio provided to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, WTDY-AM in Madison reported that Wall alleged that delegates were coerced and offered bribes and that in some cases ballots for him weren't counted.
"I've got over a hundred stories like that of corruption (and) bribery," Wall said in the interview. |
