Description | PUEBLO, Colo.—Former Colorado congressman Frank Evans, a Democrat credited with bringing a well-known government printing office to Pueblo, died Thursday in a hospice. He was 86.
The funeral home gave no cause of death.
Evans won seven terms in Congress using the slogan "Good Work, Frank." He was elected to Colorado's 3rd Congressional District in 1964 and credited with helping bring the Federal Citizen Information Center to Pueblo in 1970. The office prints free consumer publications and receives so much mail that is has its own ZIP code, 81009.
Evans retired in 1979. His successor, former Democratic Rep. Ray Kogovsek, recalled Evans as a gracious host who would invite visiting Coloradans to his home in Washington for meals cooked by his wife, Eleanor.
Kogovsek said that when he first arrived in Washington, Evans "met us at the airport and put us up in his home for a week while I got my feet on the ground. |
