Description | Incumbent Sen. Richard Shelby, popular four-term Republican senator from Alabama, easily won his primary race yesterday, June 1. It would take a holy miracle for Republican Shelby to lose in November in red-state Alabama to Democratic nominee William Barnes, an attorney.
Arkansas Run-off: Progressive Halter vs. Centrist Lincoln
But political miracles do happen now and then. Just ask Arkansas Lt. Gov. Bill Halter who, a year ago, never dreamed he would be a hotly viable contender to upset two-term Democrat Sen. Blanche Lincoln in her bid for a third term.
Next Tuesday, June 8, 2010, progressive Halter and pro-Wall Street centrist Lincoln will vy for the Arkansas Democratic nomination for Lincoln's U.S. Senate seat in a contest liberal activists, including MoveOn.org, view as a fight for the soul of the Democratic party.
President Obama and former President Clinton both strongly endorse Sen. Lincoln, and Clinton recently campaigned for Lincoln in their shared home state of Arkansas. |
