Description | ELYRIA, Ohio—President Barack Obama will continue to pursue his endangered health-care overhaul plan, despite public opposition and the Democrats' loss of a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, according to a speech he will make today in Ohio.
"I am not going to walk away just because it's hard. We're going to keep on working to get this done with Democrats, Republicans–anyone who is willing to step up," he said, according to remarks released by the White House. Mr. Obama will speak at 2 p.m. ET.
Mr. Obama didn't say what the eventual legislation would look like. He also did not elaborate on how he would push a plan through the Senate, which with the Tuesday election of Republican Scott Brown in Massachusetts now has enough Republican votes to block action on a Democratic bill. Mr. Brown won the seat formerly held by Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, who was for decades the leader of Democratic efforts to overhaul the U.S. health care system.
