Description | With the Democratic race for governor tightening, Comptroller Dan Hynes has roughly a $1 million cash advantage over Gov. Quinn as their bitter primary battle enters the homestretch, newly filed reports and interviews with the campaigns showed Wednesday.
Quinn, however, has made up some ground against Hynes. The governor outpaced Hynes in fund-raising since July. Quinn did so on the shoulders of the Service Employees International Union, which has donated more than $1.2 million in cash and services to his political kitty.
"We believe we have every resource we need, including money, to win this race," Quinn spokeswoman Elizabeth Austin said.
Through the end of last year, Hynes was expected to report between $2.9 million and $3 million in cash on hand, roughly double the $1.49 million Quinn reported, Hynes campaign spokesman Matt McGrath said.
Since the start of this year, Quinn has taken in more than $638,000 in contributions to Hynes' $225,000-plus. From July to December, Quinn reported raising $3.1 million, but details of fund-raising total from Hynes were not available because the comptroller had not filed his paperwork late Wednesday. |
