Description | WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Barack Obama, in his weekly radio address Saturday, said once he signs new health care legislation into law, Americans can expect dozens of benefits and protections to be quickly put in place.
"Once I sign health insurance reform into law, doctors and patients will have more control over their health care decisions, and insurance company bureaucrats will have less," he said. "All told, these changes represent the most sweeping reforms and toughest restrictions on insurance companies that this country has ever known."
Mr. Obama's remarks come as top leaders in the Senate and Congress are beginning to hash out differences in health-care bills in preparation of final legislation. The White House had said earlier in the week it supports an effort to tweak any final legislation so it makes insurance more affordable for the lowest earners.
Mr. Obama also reiterated his thoughts that overhauling the health-care system will save Americans and the government money. He said overhauling the health-care system will ensure that uninsured Americans with a preexisting illness or condition can purchase affordable coverage. |
