| Description | Former Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee) has formally joined the Rhode Island governor's race as an independent candidate.
Chafee told supporters at a campaign kickoff Monday that he would work to limit government spending in a state facing large budget deficits.
He is proposing to study whether Rhode Island should tax items that are currently exempt from a 7 percent sales tax, such as food, clothing and over-the-counter drugs. |
