Come on now... Clothing is an expression of one's individuality, character and views and may reflect on ones religion as well. As long as no one forces or promotes the wearing of skullcaps, crosses or scarves - or displays them in a proseletizing manner - I'm fine. If a woman wears her scarf as an expression of her religion - without forcing it down my throat - I'm fine. Next they'll deny my right to wear my overgrown afro OR wear messages on my clothing as an expression of my political values.
LOOK BENEATH THE SURFACE - that which at first appears to be supportive of the separation of church and state has evolved into a narrow minded defining of an individual freedom of expression.
We're on a slippery slope here - it could easily go either way...
PS: Moslem women who practice Islam devoutly are required to wear the scarves - do we wish to cloister them from society and deny them freedom of movement within western society?!? Do we want to kick all Moslem girls out of school? Besides, no one is stopping European nuns from continuing to wear full flowing habits complete with headgear coupled with a full length of Rosary beads and a dollar sized cross.
LOOKS LIKE A DOUBLE STANDARD to me - and I'm Catholic to boot.
