Description | The Liberal Democrats are poised to supplant Labour as the main rival to the Conservative Party, according to the party's leader, Nick Clegg.
Labour was a ''spent force'' whose time had passed, paving the way for liberalism to re-emerge as a dominant force in British politics, the Lib Dem leader said.
His comments appeared to indicate that the Lib Dems would be concentrating on making inroads into the traditional Labour vote in the next general election.
Alluding to Labour's ascent over the Liberals in the early 1900s, he said that the prospect of a ''reverse switch'' was now more likely than ever before. |
