Description"At least a few participants charged Wednesday that Sen. Bob Casey's health care forum was stacked in favor of those who support a reform bill, something the Casey camp strongly denies.

Each potential questioner was required to fill out a form asking his or her name and address, in addition to writing the question. Those forms were drawn at random, and the questioner was asked to approach a microphone to state the question.

"It seemed like all the questions were favorable" to the Senate health bill, Doreen Linder of Quakertown said after standing up near the end of the forum to make her views known. "This meeting was fabricated."

Casey said a neutral party helped draw the forms at random without screening the questions. Casey defended the format as fair but said he would make an exception and allow her to speak.

I just want to go on the record dissenting from this bill," Linder said. "Ronald Reagan said in 1961, 'The way to control people is to control their health care.'"

Casey spokeswoman Stephanie Zarecky said the question forms were put into red boxes and pulled out at random by volunteers from East Stroudsburg University, where the forum was held.

"The senator did not know the questions ahead of time and our staff did not know the questions ahead of time," Zarecky said. "We did not cherry-pick."

Casey has held five forums around the state on the health bill approved by his Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee. Other forums were held in Pittsburgh, Lock Haven, Johnstown and Erie. He also conducted a telephone forum."
