Description | Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton is an all-but-announced candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2010, and a number of contenders have already stepped up to replace her.
Most of the Democratic prospects are from Milwaukee County -- including state Sen. Lena Taylor and state Sen. Spencer Coggs, and Milwaukee Ald. Tony Zielinski. Zielinski, in particular, seems to be running hard, smart and with a good deal of money (roughly $60,000) on hand or transferable from his city campaign account.
There will be more candidates in what should be a wide-open primary.
Among those we hope will consider the race is Dane County Board Chair Scott McDonell.
Broadly experienced -- having served as a county supervisor since 1996 and as the board chair for the state's second-largest county since 2005 -- McDonell is a skilled political leader and negotiator who would be an asset to any governor. |
