Description | Getting a jump on a race for a statewide office that has sat empty since Pat Quinn entered the executive mansion, state Sen. Terry Link, D-Waukegan, announced Monday that he is launching a campaign for lieutenant governor.
"We need a geographic balance on the ticket," Link told The News-Sun in an exclusive interview announcing the decision Monday afternoon. "All of the (current) constitutional officers are from Chicago, and we need to have a voice heard from other areas of the state."

Link, 62, has served in the Senate since 1997 and is a majority caucus whip. He said he's spent the last two weeks working the phones to seek support from Democrats statewide. |
