Description | In the race to succeed Republican Rep. John M. McHugh in upstate New York, it looks increasingly likely that Democrats will pick a candidate with little to no political experience, reprising the strategy the party used to score an upset earlier this year.
On Wednesday, the Democratic county chairs in McHugh’s 23rd House District released a list of the 11 candidates they are considering for the nomination.
On Aug. 10, they’ll interview their slate of prospective candidates and elect their nominee.
Republicans already have chosen Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava as their nominee.
The Democrats’ list has just one contender with significant experience in elected office and government — assistant inspector general in the state Medicaid office and former Oswego Mayor John T. Sullivan Jr..
Others being considered include three former McHugh challengers, several attorneys and one candidate who lost out in the Republican nomination process and now wants to be considered by the Democrats. |
