Description |
A Republican with money to spend and a well-known name has decided to take on incumbent U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster, setting the stage for a party fight that has already left Shuster reeling and possibly wounded.
The Republican insurgent, Michael DelGrosso, whose family manufactures tomato sauce and operates a Blair County amusement park, all under the DelGrosso name, is tackling Shuster despite a landside victory for the son of legendary lawmaker Bud Shuster in November 2002.
DelGrosso, 33, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and seeking his first public office, insists he, rather than Shuster, is best qualified to represent the sprawling 9th Congressional District, which consists of no less than 14 counties stretching from the eastern half of Fayette County and all of Somerset County to Cumberland County, on the outskirts of Harrisburg.
