Franken picks Wellstone as his model

Description | After he is sworn in as Minnesota's newest U.S. Senator, Al Franken will sit at the desk of his political hero - Paul Wellstone.
Franken said today that Senate leaders have told him they have kept the desk open for him and it significance will not be lost. Franken shares Wellstone's politics and passion and Wellstone's death in a plane crash in October 2002 spurred Franken to run.
"Paul looked at his job as improving people's lives and that's what I want to do. He was probably the politician that worked for the most in terms of doing fundraisers or just campaigning for," Franken said in an interview today. "I'm not Paul, I'm not going to be able to fill his shoes but I'm going to work as hard as I can to fulfill that goal, which is improving people's lives."
Franken also hinted there may more homages to Wellstone as he the days get closer to his swearing in. |
