Description | Arizona should take the "public" out of its public-finance system for political campaigns, a legislative panel decided Monday.
On a party-line vote, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to send to the 2010 ballot a measure that would block taxpayer money from being used to pay for any political campaign.
Arizona has had a public-finance system for statewide and legislative offices since 1998, when voters approved the system and decided to fund it with fines and voluntary contributions.
Sen. Jonathan Paton, R-Tucson, sponsored Senate Concurrent Resolution 1025 because he believes it is wrong for government money to be injected into campaigns. |
