Description | National Republicans are upping their offensive against a handful of moderate Blue Dog Democrats they view as politically vulnerable in 2010.
On Wednesday, the National Republican Congressional Committee launched radio ads against Reps. Marion Berry (D-Ark.), Charlie Melancon (D-La.), Earl Pomeroy (D-N.D.), Zack Space (D-Ohio) and John Tanner (D-Tenn.), attacking them for supporting President Barack Obama’s stimulus legislation and budget proposal.
“In Louisiana, Charlie Melancon calls himself a Blue Dog. A Blue Dog Democrat, that is. Melancon claims he's conservative on budgets and spending,” the ad against Melancon says.
“But this year in Washington, Charlie Melancon's not voting like a Blue Dog. He's voting like a lap dog.”
Among the five targeted Democrats, Melancon has received the most attention from national Republicans. While his southeast Louisiana district is solidly Republican -- John McCain won 61 percent there in November -– Melancon has proven to be politically durable. |
