Description | County Executive Scott Walker has been wary about tapping federal stimulus funds to help out Milwaukee County residents.
That's been well documented.
But the Republican gubernatorial wannabe now is hoping to turn President Barack Obama's economy recovery plan - and Walker's criticism of it - into a financial boon for his campaign war chest.
"My decision not to accept federal stimulus money was not popular with liberals, but it was the right thing to do," Walker wrote in a fund-raising letter to supporters this week. "I need your help to share our commonsense message with people across Wisconsin. A government handout is not stimulus! Will you help, by sending a generous contribution . . . ?"
No handouts for anyone, except the Walker campaign. He is expected to announce his Republican bid for the 2010 governor's race soon.
Members of the County Board criticized the flier, saying it didn't accurately reflect Walker's position on stimulus funds.
"It's a lie," said Supervisor Patricia Jursik, a fiscal conservative. |
