DescriptionThe mainstream advocacy group the Alliance for Marriage called upon Congress today to pass the Federal Marriage Amendment in the aftermath of a state supreme court decision striking down marriage in Massachusetts.

"Gays and lesbians have a right to live as they choose," said Matt Daniels, president of The Alliance for Marriage. "But they don't have a right to redefine marriage for our entire society. The Federal Marriage Amendment is essential to allow the American people to determine the future of marriage in our country."

The Federal Marriage Amendment, a project of the Alliance for Marriage, has almost 100 co-sponsors and has been introduced in the House of Representatives with bi-partisan support.

The Alliance for Marriage is a non-partisan, multicultural coalition whose Board of Advisors includes Rev. Walter Fauntroy -- the former DC Delegate who organized the March on Washington for Martin Luther King Jr. -- as well as other civil rights and religious leaders, and national legal experts.
