DescriptionAUSTIN - Texas Gov. Rick Perry has become the latest in a string of state governor's to receive a suspicious package.

Perry's office said they received an envelope Wednesday at an office not in the state Capitol.

"Proper procedures were followed, emergency officials were contacted and were immediately on the scene," said Perry spokeswoman Katherine Cesinger.

At least nine other governors have received similar packages this week.

A Department of Public Safety spokesman was on the scene and did not immediately return calls from The Associated Press.

Similar envelopes have been received this week in Alabama, Alaska, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana and Rhode Island.

It was not yet clear if the Texas letter contained white powder or if it had a Dallas postmark like the other mailings.
