Description |
"I think the chief's got just about the highest name recognition in town, and simply from a charisma sense, I think he's got a pretty good shot," said outgoing 1st Ward City Council Member Jerry Blakey, who also has had mayoral ambitions in the past. He ran in the 2001 primary, one of six candidates running for the office left vacant by Norm Coleman.
Finney, too, could face a considerable field of others challenging Mayor Randy Kelly. Ramsey County Commissioners Rafael Ortega and Susan Haigh have been weighing their odds, and Jay Benanav hasn't ruled out a rematch with Kelly, who narrowly edged out the 4th Ward council member in 2001.
