Description |
A record number of voters cast absentee ballots for Saturday's election for governor, many of them Republicans who out-voted Democrats in some large parishes, such as Democratic candidate Kathleen Blanco's home parish of Lafayette.
Despite that indication of high voter interest, state election officials predict a 45 percent statewide voter turnout -- 5 percentage points lower than in the Oct. 4 primary that sent Blanco to a runoff with Republican Bobby Jindal.
