DescriptionThe absentee ballots counted this morning and added to the Tippecanoe County election results this morning produced no changes in the outcome of any races. A couple of races did wind up closer.

The Lafayette city council race between Republican Norb Fisher and Democrat Melissa Weast-Williamson in council district five narrowed to only a five-vote difference, 1200 to 1205, and Fisher, with 1200, plans to ask for a recount.

"The error was discovered in the proof that we do the next day following the election," said Linda Phillips, Tippecanoe County Clerk. "It became obvious early on that there was a problem, and we took steps to remedy the problem."

Phillips says she plans to review election procedures to make sure it does not happen again. "Obviously, we wish the mistake hadn't happened, but once we discovered it I think we did all the right things." Phillips says she wanted to make the correction in a very public forum.
