DescriptionU.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, a veteran Democrat re-elected as an independent candidate after losing his party’s primary two years ago, keeps salting Democratic campaign coffers with cash from his leadership political action committee.

The three-term senator has infuriated scores of Democrats by backing President Bush’s war policy in Iraq and by regularly hitting the campaign trail alongside the presumptive Republican presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

Moreover, Lieberman’s Reuniting Our Country PAC continues to reap contributions from out-of-staters who have been big donors to Republicans.

The committee’s latest quarterly report to the Federal Election Commission reveals that its biggest benefactors between April and June — 11 individuals and five corporate PACs that each gave $5,000 — included Lawrence DeGeorge, a financier from Florida who since last year has given $66,000 to the Republican National Committee and $12,400 to the Republican Party of Florida.
