DescriptionNew York isn't the yuppie magnet it once was.

Rattled by job cuts and the Wall Street downturn, the city fell to No. 4 nationally in a list of best cities for upwardly mobile young professionals.

"Right now anything would be easier than New York," said Richie Rivera, 30, a health insurance administrator from Brooklyn. "A lot of people are losing jobs and trying to find work."

San Francisco, which boasts a more diversified economy, leapfrogged over New York into the top spot, followed by tech-happy Boston at No. 2.

Muggy Houston, where soaring oil prices have fueled growth amid the economic gloom, also beat out the Big Apple in the new list by Forbes magazine.
