Mike Fahey is sending off signals that he has had enough with being mayor and is ready to move out of City Hall next spring.

His supporters and detractors disagree about how much his political stock dropped in the past week with his failed effort to replace David Sokol on the board that runs the Qwest Center Omaha.

His critics say he's toast after a series of missteps and controversies, though Fahey's friends and allies counter that the mayor continues to enjoy enough goodwill with voters to carry him to an unprecedented third term.

But even his supporters see signs that he may be growing weary.

This time four years ago, Fahey was hosting fundraisers and building up his campaign war chest with events such as a $250-a-person pool party.

This year, it's much different. In addition to staying mum about his plans, he hasn't held or scheduled a campaign fundraiser.

Fahey began this year with $46,769 in his campaign account. That amount is less than what Councilmen Chuck Sigerson, Jim Vokal and Jim Suttle had at the time.
