DescriptionWashington, D.C. (AHN) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) plans to intervene if the Democratic presidential race continues beyond June.

In an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, Pelosi described the protracted battle between Sens. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and Barack Obama (D-IL) as a "very positive experience" for Democrats because of the "millions of people who are attracted to this campaign... Hillary and her message, and the same thing for Barack Obama and his appeal."

Nonetheless, Pelosi, chairman of the Democratic National Convention, said she will "step in" if the race drags on after end of the primary season on June 3. "Because we cannot take this fight to the convention. It must be over before then," she added.

Pelosi also expressed optimism that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) will be able to find a fair solution to how the delegates from Florida and Michigan are to be seated. The DNC's Rules and By-laws Committee is expected to settle the issue on Saturday in Washington.
