Another day, another round of television interviews and another polite refusal from John Edwards to endorse a presidential candidate.
In a five-minute interview on the “Today” show, Matt Lauer gave it his best shot, but couldn’t wring an endorsement out of Mr. Edwards, the former senator from North Carolina who dropped out of the Democratic race in January.
“Let me go after one subject in a couple of different ways here,” Mr. Lauer said. “Who is the most likely – you’re a loyal Democrat, you want to defeat John McCain – who has the best chance, in your opinion, of defeating John McCain in the fall. Is it Hillary Clinton or is it Barack Obama?”
“I think they both –“ Mr. Edwards began.
“No no no,” Mr. Lauer interrupted.
“I know, you don’t like that answer,” Mr. Edwards replied, as they both started laughing. |
