Jeremiah Wright, the controversial pastor of presidential candidate Barack Obama, may not be coming to North Texas this weekend after all.
"His schedule is pending," said Joan Harrell, minister of communications for Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where Dr. Wright was pastor for nearly four decades.
She would not elaborate.
Dr. Wright is supposed to speak at a Saturday luncheon at Paul Quinn College in southeast Oak Cliff, and he's to be honored that night at Friendship-West Baptist Church in the Red Bird area.
Both events had been moved from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth because of security concerns by TCU officials. And on Tuesday, a Florida church canceled appearances by Dr. Wright, again for security reasons.
Frederick Haynes III, pastor of Friendship-West Baptist, said Tuesday night that the Dallas events are "all systems go," but he acknowledged that security issues could keep Dr. Wright away.
"That possibility is there," he said. "I can't comment with confidence either way. , His people are talking to my people about security arrangements." |
