Ogonowski: 'Republican can win'

CHELMSFORD -- The votes have long since been counted and the political signs taken down, but Jim Ogonowski still has faith -- faith in his Republican Party's political agenda and faith that the state's Democratic stronghold is not insurmountable.
Speaking more like a candidate than a retired lieutenant colonel from the Air National Guard, Ogonowski last night rallied his party's faithful at the Chelmsford Country Club with an ambitious outlook of Republican successes across the state on the heels of his loss Oct. 16 to Niki Tsongas for the 5th Congressional District seat.
Although Ogonowski did not announce plans for any future runs at public office, his message to members of the Massachusetts Federation of Young Republicans was that his failed campaign helped energize the state's GOP base and motivate thousands of unenrolled voters.
"I kept hearing that a Republican can't win in Massachusetts," he said last night, "and every time I heard it, I said 'You can't have that attitude. You can do it in Massachusetts. We can win."
