Description | Israeli and Palestinian leaders have agreed to re-start negotiations to reach a comprehensive peace deal by the end of 2008.
Condoleezza Rice, the US secretary of state, said Ehud Olmert and Mahmoud Abbas would begin formal talks at the White House on Wednesday and urged the international community to meet its obligations to achieve peace.
"The focus here has been on the obligations not only of the parties but of the international community to achieve our shared goal of two democratic states - Israel and Palestine - living side by side in peace and security," Rice said at the close of the Annapolis conference on Tuesday.
