Description | CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Former Gov. Robert E. McNair, who helped guide the state through six years of racial divide, including the infamous Orangeburg Massacre, has died after a bout with brain cancer. He was 83.
McNair died peacefully at an apartment in Charleston at about 7:30 a.m., with his family at his side, said O. Wayne Corley, senior shareholder at the McNair Law Firm.
McNair was diagnosed with brain cancer in September, Corley said. |
