Description | Take a non-traditional Republican candidate with a lot of buzz but no experience in elective office, add a seasoned but low-key Democratic lieutenant governor, and what do you get?
Until Tuesday, there were two ways to answer that question: The governor's race in California and our own contest to replace Mike Foster.
Does that mean Bobby Jindal and Arnold Schwarzenegger have a lot in common or that Kathleen Blanco is the next Cruz Bustamante?
Not surprisingly, Jindal sees a few similarities between himself and Tuesday's big winner.
"Certainly on a very general level, any time a state elects somebody who's never held elective office before, that's a positive sign for my campaign," he said, pointing to the most obvious. Another commonality, he said, is the two men's immigrant roots -- Schwarzenegger came over from Austria and Jindal's parents moved here from India just before he was born -- and how that shapes their version of the "American Dream."
