DescriptionDELTA, Ohio (AP) — A state senator from northwest Ohio says he's entering the race to run for the congressional seat formerly held by Paul Gillmor.

Republican Steve Buehrer (BYUHR) announced his plans Thursday in his hometown of Delta.

Buehrer once was an intern for Gillmor who died in an apparent fall at his Washington home two weeks ago.

Buehrer is known as a fiscal and social conservative.

He spent eight years in the Ohio House before being elected to the Senate.

Others in the race are Republican state Rep. Bob Latta of Bowling Green and Democrat Robin Weirauch.
