Description | It isn’t surprising that in advance of the 2008 elections, the national parties are setting their sights on vulnerable freshmen, incumbents who narrowly escaped defeat last year, and generally competitive House districts. But two lawmakers in the Democrats’ cross-hairs are 20-year congressional veterans in traditionally “safe” seats.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) launched a negative radio ad campaign this week aimed at several Republicans, including two seemingly unlikely targets: New Jersey 3rd District Rep. H. James Saxton and Florida 10th District Rep. C.W. Bill Young.
Each lawmaker has served in Congress for more than 20 years and has not faced a significant challenger in recent years, and no major Democrats have announced their intentions to challenge the lawmakers in 2008. But the DCCC said it is precisely their perceived “safe” status that fueled the Democrat’s decision to strike. |
