Description | NEW YORK (NEW YORK) -- U.S. stocks posted steep losses on Thursday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average losing over 380 points for its second worst day of the year, amid a resurgence of credit-market concerns. The Dow ($INDU :13,270.68, -387.18, -2.8% ) was down 387 points, or 2.8%, at 13,270 at the unofficial 4 p.m. close. The S&P 500 index ($SPX :1,453.09, -44.40, -3.0% ) fell 44 points, or 3%, to 1,453, while the Nasdaq Composite (COMP :2,556.49, -56.49, -2.2% ) lost 56 points, or 2.2%, to 2,556. Markets opened under pressure Thursday after news that French bank BNP Paribas had suspended three funds with exposure to the U.S. credit markets. |
